Thanks Margaret. What's wierd about that image is that it's really precarious. If you take the shadows out. The guy in the back ground becomes the focus because of the way he's frame by everything else in the image. If you put just a shadow on the rear guy, your eye pops back and forth from the sun to the the FG guy.
But, putting the shadow on both guys with the cast shadow leading us to the forground guy, we focus on him.
It's a simple layout, but if you do something wrong, it really screws up your focus.
Anyway, I don't know if you found that in anway way interesting but there you have it.
